Allow me to introduce two men that really need no introduction – Michael Jackson and Ne-Yo!

Here are two songs from completely different eras that share some interesting similarities… “Rock My World”, and “Nobody”.

Musical Coincidence #3

December 15th, 2009 § 1

Well folks, allow me to present to you the second MC in less than a week – how exciting (man, how proactive am I getting – as opposed to the old con-active me)!! This is one is one I am particularly fond of, as it features my all time favourite artist… none other than the great Stevland Morris aka Stevie Wonder – and for me, one of the greatest tracks of the last century – Lately.  The other song was a 2008 hit by the rapper Rick Ross – Here I Am. And I must say that I actually quite like what Drumma Boy did with the track – great instrumentation, and catchy as hell! Shame about my less than alluring choice of images for Ricky… :•)

I’m sure this is a coincidence that everyone will be able to enjoy. So, without further ado… May I present to you, Lately - Stevie Wonder ft Rick Ross.

Musical Coincidence #2

It has been a very long time between coincidences – although not for lack of material, as I have pixels and pixels of them piling up on my desktop. Hopefully with this next installment, we will also see my idle ways become a thing of the past. This MC is a little left of the middle, but after checking out the Toni track posted on facebook by dear Miss Neha I felt compelled to get back down to business. I cleared my morning schedule so that I could slap this one together for all you Toni/Britney lovers out there!

Enjoy… Yesterday – Toni Braxton ft Britney (the Jaden Music way)

New found love

One of the most exciting things for me in life is finding (or being shown) new music from which i can draw musical influence!

This weekend saw the discovery of a few new tracks that i would like to share with u and also give a brief review.

It is no secret that here at Jaden, we are big fans of  the production of Mr Ryan Leslie.  My first discovery is a song titled “Get it right tonight” by an artist named Corey Gunz ft. Ryan Leslie. As always Leslie drops a simple yet PHAT beat, along with a hypnotizing synth hook (think it sounds a little like the one in Coolio’s “gangsta’s paradise” – musical coincidence?) which has my head bobbing throughout the whole track! Leslie is a master of keeping the right tracks simple and once again he has achieved another killer track while keeping this formula. This is the first time i hear any track by Corey Gunz and must say that i am a fan of his flow. Somewhat similar to that of lil wayne, but has his own vibe and as for lyrics, they’re on the money for this track.

The second discovery excites me for a few different reasons. The track is titled “Killer instincts” by Rick Ross and Produced by Cool and Dre.

The first reason this excites me is because my good friend’s band will be heading to Miami in a month to record their album with Cool and Dre. This dynamic producer duo have been recently producing their Hip Hop tracks with a lot of rock influence so i can’t wait to hear what else these guys will be coming up with.

Back to the track……It has a killer beat with a raw sounding live kit (as a drummer i love raaaaaaawwww sounding kits!), great vocal production, and one catchy ass vocal hook! Another track that has me bobbin my head and  i’m loving the flow of Rick Ross’ verses.

Third track! – “Believe” By Q-Tip and D’Angelo! – I did find 2 versions of this track so check this 1;

Without even listening to the track i already had a feeling this would be an awesome track! Well, why wouldn’t you……Q-Tip and D’Angelo wouldn’t drop an ‘average’ track.

Once again……raawwww live kit, with a slight swing to make it sound as if its just ahead of the beat. LOVE IT! The key chords are amazing and the little guitar licks throughout the verse are sooooooo tasteful. Great lyrics, great production……and what can u say about D’Angelo’s performance?? well lets just say it’s what anyone would expect. – Smooth.

Enjoy – i know i’ll be thrashing these tracks!

PEACE xox

Musical Coincidence #1

A couple of weeks ago I was in the studio jamming along with some Jacko tracks on the drums. It was during one song in particular that something caught my attention – as “Remember the Time” went into the bridge, I distinctly started to hear part of another song in my head (kinda like those Looney Tunes cartoons where the “bright idea” light bulb pops up). I couldn’t quite figure out which song I was hearing, but the combination of the vocal melodies over the progression were so similar to that of Jacko’s I decided that I had to investigate further.

After managing to extract a couple of the lyrics that were bouncing around in my head, I rounded it down to something by Usher. I opened my iTunes library and began to skim through the track listing for 8701. As soon as I opened Track 9 – “U don’t have to call” (written & produced by The Neptunes), I realised it was the bridge for this track I had been hearing. Deciding to take my investigations to the next level, I imported both tracks into a new Pro Tools session and set about getting to the bottom of the matter. I have combined what I think is an interesting snippet of both tracks with this post so you can have a listen to exactly what I was hearing…

In conclusion, I would like to leave you with the thought I have been pondering: In a time of such sadness, with the passing of a true pioneer of pop music and legendary performer, hearing something like this makes me realise this – no matter whether past or present, all of the great musicians, singers and songwriters the world has seen will forever live on through their music, and through the music of all who are influenced by them. Immortality surely awaits the great minds of our generation.

Stay tuned for more Musical Coincidences!

What’s new Pussycat?

It’s all go go go at Jaden headquarters right now. Over the last 2-3 weeks we have had an overwhelmingly great response from singers around Sydney – even including a male vocalist (which seems to be harder to find than a leprechaun making out with a four leaf clover).

By day, I have been busying myself meeting with prospectives and figuring out the best way to ration out the music. By night, I have been doing my best to keep the new music flowing so that I have a reason to meet people during the day, and so forth…

We are really excited to have connected with some amazing talent so far, and have this week added another track to the rapidly growing Jaden Music song catalogue (“Buckle Up” ft Cheyenne Kavanagh), soon to be uploaded for your aural pleasure.

Also coming to this space shortly – a new segment on our blog called “Musical Coincidences”. I can’t say any more about this for now, but I promise it will be worth coming back for. In fact, some of you may even feel a sudden, inexplicable urge to brush your teeth afterwards…

Speaking of which, I am off to do so right now. Laterz

Where Am I?
